Mom: "How do people get married?"
Colson: "They tell their-chothers."
M: "Tell each other what?"
C: "To get married."
M: "They ask, 'Will you marry me?'"
C: "Yeah."
M: "And then what happens?"
C: "They kiss."
M: "Yeah? And then what?"
C: "Then they're married!"

Dear Finley,
Please talk soon. I know there is blogging potential up in those brains of yours. Also, you have a cute voice.

A Loony Mashup!
Sometimes I run on over here to ooley-ooley-oos and jot (can one jot with a keyboard?) down funny things Colson says because I know it will be lost by the end of the day. I often forget about them, however. So I checked back just now and here's what a found...
Untitled
Colson: "Mosquitos drink blood. Like vampires. That is disgusting. I will take it back from them and put it back in my shoulder."
Storytelling
"The little popcorns went to the other dark, where finger were. And they shot out worms, and the worms turned into a door. And they locked it. Forever. And they saw the other shadows, but the moon got the shadows away from the popcorns and they blew the fire off!"
B52's
"It wasn't a wock. It was a yonck wobstuh. It was a wooooooock yobster!"
Violence and Social Grooming
Colson: "When Daddy comes home, he will give you a happy smell."
Mom: "What??"
C: "If you bonk him in the head!"
M: "That's not very nice. I won't do that."
C: "If you smash him in the eye!"
M: "Colson! Those aren't nice things. I won't do that either."
C: "Well...love on him. Give him a kiss and give him a hug and brush his bangs."
Caterpillar, Love
Colson: "Look, Mama! I drawed caterpillars!"
Mom: "Oooh, how pretty....Hey, let's draw some antennas on their heads...and let's put some little balls on them."
A few minutes later Colson calls me over...
"Look, Mama! I drawed tennis racks (rackets) and balls on the caterpillars' heads!"
Your Friendly Neighborhood Crazy
"Spiderman! Spiderman!
Whateva he does!
Spins a web! Exercise!
Catches leaves!
....
Here Spiderman comes!"
:)

Safety First
Today I'm teaching Colson about dialing 911 in an emergency. We talked about how we use 911 to call for help when someone's hurt or there are bad guys or fires. I'm relieved that we're at this point (hopefully) now. I worry a lot that I'll crack my head open or something and my kids will have to fend for themselves as I slowly bleed to death until Danny comes home.
Anyhow, paranoia aside, Colson was pretty upset at the thought of me potentially getting hurt or bad guys coming. The fire scenario she was okay with. She went into minor hysterics saying that she "just wants to stay home forever and never be around mean people and no one will hurt me." This is when I tried to calm her by saying that it might be me that gets hurt and I would need her to be the big girl and help. Then, "I don't want that to happen!! Don't get hurt!" And also, "I don't want to learn bad things. I just want to learn good things like school!"
After she calmed down she did really well dialing the numbers and understanding not to press the green button unless there is a real emergency, that we were just pretending for practice. I wish, as I'm sure all parents do, that I could promise her that she would never be around mean people and no one would ever hurt her and that I would be always okay and in control. Heavy things...In the meantime, I will just focus on the hope I have that she won't call 911 the next time I stub my toe. Or that if I do crack my head open she won't dial a bunch of 2's. It's her favourite.
